Never forget this amazing African American regiment from World War I and World War II. Sent to serve with the French Army in 1918 instead of the US Army due to racism. Welcomed in France with open arms, the 369th was treated no different than any other French unit. The men were issued French weapons, helmets, belts, and pouches, although they continued to wear their U.S. uniforms. 170 members of the 369th were awarded the Croix de Guerre and the entire regiment was awarded a unit citation.
